Christmas Shopping
by Barton Russell

I had a Christmas memory of shopping in Weston in 1940 when I was about nine.

My shopping trip occurred on December 24th and took about an hour round trip from my home at 6 Springmount Avenue to Main Street.

I spent my budget of $1.50 at Kirby’s Department Store (five and a dime) on very modest gifts, a screwdriver, comb, candy, etc., for my family.

'
My shopping excursion included a short walk along Main Street to view the front window of Richardson’s Furniture Store with their Christmas display featuring an operating oversized model steam train.

From there, I returned home to wrap the gifts.

Merry Christmas all!
